On the back of some robust lobbying, Defra and the APHA have today agreed that they are now willing to accept electronic copies of the Intra Trade Health Certificate accompanying fresh semen imported from the EU to its destination (the original Health Certificate should be sent afterwards). This will be welcome news for all those using imported semen.
We would also notify members that, as set out in Defra’s March 2019 guidance – Import of Equine Genetic Material from EU Countries (http://apha.defra.gov.uk/documents/bip/iin/eg-eu-1.pdf) – that there is still a requirement for the importer to pre-notify the APHA before the arrival of the consignment.
